We have to talk about Slaven
We play a back four and put one of our best midfielders in as a RB. We have a RB sitting on the bench.

We have a 20 year old Swiss International who is better than at least 2 our our midfield and the best he can hope for is a couple of minutes at the end of games.

We play our best marauding midfielder up front alone, after discovering, shock horror, he can't play at RB. We have two strikers on the bench, one of which cost us £20m and has just had a decent international tournament and scored a couple of goals and got some match fitness after a nasty injury.

Will Bilic ever learn from his mistakes or does he think he is Arsene Wenger and can keep doing this nonsense over and over is some sort of groundhog day shit?

And before the Bilic cock gobblers start cunting me off, I would like you to defend his approach answering the points above because dancing around for 90 minutes in a bobble hat might be alright for a drunken smurf but the manager of my football club needs footballing intelligence, flexibility and adaptability with passion.

Spidey-sense?

Again you are making up absolute bollocks, desperate for attention as always.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
To expand on that last point a bit more, I would hope the club has a vision of what they want next season's first 11 to ideally look like. And how it would be different to this season's. Then you can use the rest of the season as an opportunity to test those theories, enabling a clear strategy for sales and acquisitions in the Summer.

I criticise because I sense none of the above is happening. I do not see an overarching strategy in place at the club. How can you make effective decisions without that? It's a recipe for treading water and wasting time and money.

Why invent something out of nothing? He has said recently that he is known as a utility man and he is very happy to pay wherever he is needed as the club comes first.

You really are a desperate fucking fist.

Doesn't seem too relevant right now. We're in mid-table - the key now is to build for next season, develop the younger/fringe players, reshuffle the priorities in the squad, find a consistent pattern of play.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
Re: Kouyate, I'd predict an issue brewing with him and his happiness at the club. He's been great as the utility man but I think he wants to play midfield and it's a question of how long he's prepared to accept the current situation. The trouble is that he would be a super-valuable asset in-form playing in a regular position - the risk is that he gets unhappy and we're forced to sell at a much lower price. Once again I think the planning and thought here is just weak - I think he's being mis-managed.

What B6NY B said given all the problems we had early season.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
Kouyate isn't just a midfielder though is he... he has played CB for both us and his old club in Belgium many times including in the Champions League.

So to play such a versatile player at RB when this remains a problem position for us, and we have a reasonable level of decent cover in midfield is hardly crime of the century.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
That's not the argument.

The argument is whether it's obvious you can't do it.

Since sometimes you can convert a player, it's not at all obvious you can't, and you can't slag the manager for trying, even if it doesn't work in the end.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
I'm not sure where people expect us to be? 9th or 10th is about right, we signed a load of freebies and loans.
We've moved and he's had to start again, maintained some sort of form and we look ok.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
Thank you for that. I am now 100% convinced that a 27 year old International Class midfielder can easily play RB to the highest standard in the English Premier League.

Now it is me, you and Slaven who believe this. We just need to convince the other 7 billion people in the world now.

I am sorry for doubting you.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
I think Slaven is doing a great job, especially with the injuries to Carroll and Sakho. Calleri/Arbeloa so far haven't really worked out and Ayew/Byram have been injured/not looked up to it most of the season. Hopefully the striker and rb positions will be sorted this summer.

Do people really expect us to be above the likes of Chelsea, Man United, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Everton with all the money that they can spend and we look for loan signings and frees. We were in a relegation battle a couple of months ago and now we are comfortably clear in 9th.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
According to MacDonald himself, Robson bought him as a left-back.

“What Bobby then did was give me the opportunity. I think that’s the most important thing of all; to just give someone a chance to prove themselves,” he added. “My history in the Fulham First Team was a brief one but the stats (five goals in 13 games) are a little misleading. Bobby bought me as a full-back and played me in the Reserves, but there were a lot of injuries to the forwards and the team was having a nightmare after being relegated from the First Division. So he put me up front and I started scoring goals in the Reserves. Then there were more injuries and Fulham were left with one fit centre-forward, which was Frank Large, and myself."

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
Bobby Robson signed him as a striker for Fulham, but he only played 13 games for them and scored 5 goals.

I certainly am saying that it is easier for a youth player to learn a new position than a 27 year old Premier League and International first teamer. I don't think this is a controversial view?

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
away from home we starting to look a decent side again - we just lack a cutting edge.

at the cesspit it's a slightly different story.

take the penalty out and we pretty much dominated them away from home. not many mid tabel teams will go to s'hampton & watford and do that.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
Hurst played for the first team as a midfielder before his second conversion (that's why I put the brackets where I did, after the first conversion).

MacDonald was signed as a fullback for Fulham, but got his chance up front after they suffered an injury crisis in the striking department.

Are you seriously saying it's easier for a young inexperienced player to be played out of position?

terry-h 2:14 Mon Feb 27
Re: We have to talk about Slaven
Apparently Martin Peters played in every position for West Ham,including in goal.
